2012 Spring Pig Roast on the Beach

April 14, 2012 the pig is prepped and ready to go on the fire at 8AM. by 9AM KLSC Sailors meet on the deck of Lighthouse Landing Marina for the Skipper's meeting at 9AM. Forecast for the weather and wind for this 1st club race of the season... overcast, 76 degrees with 18-20 knot winds. The smoke rises from the beach where the pig for the evenings feast is starting to slowly cook and become the center of the end of the days festivities.
By 10AM boats on the water and the wind is ominous,, already above 20 knots and a hint of whitecaps on the water in all directions. The race starts, the pig roasts, and the winds begin to pick up. Several people on the course are reporting 40 plus knots of wind, and growing and pitching waves. One skipper after another radios in to report that they will be dropping out, until the race committee decides that there will be no second race, but a better plan is to head for the docks.
The winds did continue to roar throughout the day, the sun comes out and it is safe harbor tied safely dockside.
Washing boats, naps, errands, and all sorts of activity fill the afternoon, as the aromas from the beach are making many quite hungry., and even more looking forward to the 6PM meeting on the beach for the anticipated pig roast and social.
Still too windy to get together along the water's edge, so everything is moved to the LHL meeting
There was an excellent turnout of folks, members and others from all over who came together for an evening of great food and fun. There were some terrific homemade side dishes to compliment the BBQ, and everyone enjoyed the get together and there's already talk about the pig roast planned for this fall.
A big thanks to all the folks who worked hard to make this evenings event a great success, Tim, Gary, Ray, John, Eddie, Lee, and all the guys and gals who made and bought some additions to the juicy and delicious pig.
Well into the night old friends, new friends, we all enjoyed the food, the stories told and gloriously the kicking off of the 2012 sailing season as the winds calm, and the night quiets and we say good night and head off to our boats and homes.
Thanks to everyone who attended, and for those who couldn't make it this time, you were missed. Check out the photo page list for some pictures from the social, and you can download them in HI-Resolution, good for printing at the photo shop of your choice. AHOY!
